Clik here to view.HAWTHORN has confirmed that unrestricted free agent Xavier Ellis has agreed to contract terms with the West Coast Eagles and will leave the club under free agency rules.
Ellis, 25, joined the Hawks as a priority pick, and the third overall selection of the 2005 National Draft and played 86 games for the club.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait to start fresh at a new club,” said Ellis via a statement released by the Eagles.
“Moving to WA and starting again will be a challenge, but it’s one I’m ready for.
“I’ve been unlucky with injuries in the past, but I’m confident that’s all behind me now and I’ll be able to put my best foot forward at the Eagles.
“I’d like to thank Hawthorn for the opportunities they have given me and I wish the club nothing but the best for next season and beyond.”
The move re-unites Ellis with new West Coast senior coach Adam Simpson who was an assistant coach for the premiership winning Hawks last month.
“We’re really excited to welcome Xavier to the club,” said West Coast Eagles Football operations manager Craig Vozzo.
“He’s a terrific person and player and if we can keep him injury-free, he’ll be a great pick up for us.
“It’s a good chance for us to add another dimension to our midfield and backline, particularly after the departure of several senior players.”
Meanwhile Hawthorn’s Alastair Clarkson has thanked Ellis for his time and service to the Hawks.
“Xavier has made a valuable contribution during his eight years at Hawthorn Football Club. He departs as a premiership player and we wish him well for the future,” said Clarkson .
“He has been through a couple of tough years with injury and we’re happy to see him get another opportunity and a fresh start at the Eagles.”
