WEST COAST 23.15 (155)def GWS GIANTS 8.7 (55)
MOST believe that West Coast are just starting to hit its straps and even though it was a solid 100-point win over GWS, the Eagles big guns have re-appeared and that spells danger for opposition teams.
Coach John Worsfold said it is all starting to come together for the Eagles.
“We are really satisfied with the way we came and performed today,” Worsfold said.
Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy kicked five goals each, while Nic Naitanui was best on ground.
GWS coach Kevin Sheedy rated West Coast as one of the top teams.
“Our focus was to come and perform well for four quarters and I said to the boys ”If someone had sneezed at that end it might’ve been a goal and we might’ve won the quarter,” GWS coach Kevin Sheedy said of a close call just before three quarter-time.
“Very rarely do we get that opportunity to win a quarter against West Coast, who are a damn good side.
“Look at the hitouts compared to ours. We’re basically off the back foot right from the start.“
”We’ve probably played maybe the top five sides in the last month,” he said. ”We’re playing the best of the best at the moment. It’s a great lesson for us at the moment.”
The Eagles slow start to the season has a lot to do with some of their underdone players but it appears that they’re just starting to grow as the season progresses.
GWS, meanwhile, showed spirit in parts but were pretty much out of the game on the scoreboard almost from the start. Jeremy Cameron and T0by Greene were the best for the Giants.
