Brisbane LionsFORMER West Coast coach John Worsfold is linked to the vacant Brisbane Lions coaching role and appears to be the favourite to take over from Michael Voss.

Worsfold, who only yesterday stood down from the Eagles coaching position, has been head-hunted by the Lions this week and appears set to take on a new role after 12 seasons at the helm of West Coast.

It comes as Voss looks for an assistant coaching role at a club next season and appears willing to move his family interstate for the right role.

”Whatever capacity I go in, I want to learn, continue to grow,” Voss said. ”I want to stay in footy, whether that eventually will be ending up with a role in the media or becoming an assistant somewhere – I am quite open.

”I have gone on a very steep learning curve. I felt in the last 12 months I was just starting to, really since 2010, I have made it a priority to hone … my coaching. The last 12 months I started to feel pretty settled with it,” he told The Age.

”I felt I was growing pretty well as a coach. I would feel if I stepped away from that, I would feel like I wasted a few years.’

Former West Coast star forward Peter Sumich is the front-runner for the Eagles coaching position, alongside former Pie Scott Burns, who is currently an assistant coach at the Eagles.’
